Native of Texas; lost right arm in train-car accident in 1929 at age 24; took up game and played with likes of Babe Zaharias, Walter Hagen, Bobby Jones and Gene Sarazen; first golf pro at Westover Golf Club; teaching pro at Jabish Brook GC (Mill Valley Golf Links) in Belchertown and Heritage CC in Charlton; Spalding advisory staff member for 41 years; made 11 aces; first one-armed golfer to play at Masters and PGA Championship; winner of Ben Hogan Award in 1962, Connecticut Pro of the Year in 1976 and Western Mass. Tee Party honoree in 1972; also 2012 Connecticut Section PGA Hall of Fame inductee; one of six children; was married to Ann (Michalski) for 48 years before he passed away in 1987; couple had two children, with four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
