Ludlow native, known by nickname “Red,” was head golf pro and superintendent at Country Club of Wilbraham for 40 years; known for teaching and passion for junior program; 1963 Western Mass. Tee Party honoree; used driver and 4-iron to make double-eagle at eighth hole at Pinehurst No. 2; also played match there against Sam Snead; made 11 holes-in-one; caddied at age 8; accomplished player as junior; New England Publinx champion at age 18; Conn. Section PGA Pro of the Year and 1953 Western Mass. Open champion; born in 1911, passed away just shy of 97th birthday in 2008; father of two, including 2007 Hall of Fame inductee Roy Mackintosh.
